A daily news is a newspaper that contains up to date information on current events, politics, sports and other topics of interest. It can also include opinions and editorial pieces that offer different points of view on the news. Typically, daily newspapers are written by professional journalists and feature photographs and illustrations. Some popular examples of daily newspapers are The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
The Yale Daily News is an independent, student-run newspaper that serves the campus community of Yale University in New Haven, CT. The paper is published Monday through Friday during the academic year and consists of a general news section, WKND, an arts and entertainment supplement, and the Yale Daily News Magazine. In addition, the paper publishes several special issues each year such as the Yale-Harvard Game Day Issue and the Commemorative Issue.
An online version of the Yale Daily News is available for free through a subscription. The website provides access to the full content of the paper, including past editions from 1996 to the present. The online version also allows users to search and view photos, advertisements and letters to the editor. The Yale Daily News reserves the right to edit submissions and will contact authors regarding major changes before publishing. The archive is supported by an anonymous gift from a Yale College alumnus which helped to facilitate migration of the archive to a new platform and facilitated the addition of issues from 1996 to the present.
In its heyday, the New York Daily News was one of the largest and most influential American dailies. In 1975, it grabbed the city’s attention with its screamer headline, “Ford to City: Drop Dead!” By the turn of the 21st century, however, the paper was in serious financial trouble and suffered declining circulation. In 2017, the newspaper was sold to Tronc, a Chicago-based media company.
The News’ few remaining staff members are tasked with documenting a mountain of news, from the governor and state legislators in Albany to the New York City Housing Authority, the migrant crisis, and the NHL’s Rangers, Islanders and Devils to bustling courthouses in Queens and the Bronx. They are underpaid and overworked, but their voices need to be heard. Tell the Daily News that it’s time to give its unionized staff a fair contract.
